When Motorcyclist magazine finished testing their YZF1000R (Oct/96) they penned: "So just how good is the
1997 YZF1000R? Good enough that we can call it the best open-class sportbike yet. And that's quite a mouthful". If you're
not familiar with the YZF1000R, however, that comes as no surprise. While the ThunderAce has been in production from 1996
through 2001, it was only brought into the United States for one year (1997), and in limited quantity. This explains why,
especially in America, the YZF1000R is probably the most overlooked sportbike ever made. Poor marketing of the Ace by Yamaha
caused lackluster sales here in the US. It's an assumption that Yamaha knew the YZF1000 was only going to be in America for
one year, until the introduction of the R1. For that reason, they didn't put a whole lot of emphasis in this particular market.
Whatever the case, when the R1 was introduced in 1998, the YZF1000R was all but forgotten.
I took possession of my Ace on Jan 3/02 with 7200 miles on the odometer. These pics below where
taken at the House of the previous owner. Will soon update pics and events. Was able to get a ride in Sat 5th of Jan and was
not disapointed. A worthy addition to to its Stablemates. PS..Have a long wish list of mods, mostly cosmetic's. If you
have any suggestions or tried and proven mods, I will consider them.Just mail me ...
